Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

This is by far the best selling game on the system having sold approximately 17.33 million worldwide. Rockstar's sandbox masterpiece is thought by some to be best of the Grand Theft Auto series. Released in 2004 on Playstation and the next year on XBox and PC the game skirted with controversy with sexual content made available through the infamous "Hot Coffee"  mod which meant the ESRB reclassifying the games as AO (Adult only) instead of the original M (Mature). San Andreas is featuring again in Grand Theft Auto V. 

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec

GT3 A-Spec still holds the record for the highest selling Gran Turismo game of all time having sold 14.89 million copies worldwide. As with number one on our list this game is seen as the best of its series matching its commercial success with critical acclaim. The creators, Polyphony Digital are renowned for their attention to detail and this game is no exception. Due to this there are only 180 cars featured due to the graphical work needed for each vehicle. Polyphony also partnered with Logitech to create a force feedback racing steering wheel specifically designed for the game. 

Gran Turismo 4

Number 3 on the list is GT4 which didn't quite meet the sales of its little brother. This edition sold 11.44 million units worldwide after its 2005 release. GT4 featured over 700 cars from 80 manufacturers and 51 tracks from all over the world. As with its predecessor this game met its commercial success with critical praise. GT4 famously appeared on British motoring show Top Gear where Jeremy Clarkson raced a real life Honda around Laguna Seca against the in-game equivalent, with the latter being quicker.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Next up is the sequel to the groundbreaking GTA 3 and is the second venture into the 3D sandbox arena by Rockstar's franchise. Released in 2002 this title is set in Vice City, a fictional city modelled after Miami. The title sold 9.21 million copies and for a time was the console's best selling title. The much acclaimed title was also noted for its soundtrack which featured a large collection of licensed music from the eighties and earlier. The official soundtrack went on to be a best seller in its own right.

Grand Theft Auto 3

This was Grand Theft Auto's first foray into 3D territory using Criterion Games' Renderware engine and it quickly became the best selling game of 2001 and it went on to sell a total of 7.5 million copies. Denounced by many for its sexual and violent content it nevertheless became an instant classic and brought the GTA franchise widespread recognition and the game itself is seen as one of the most influential games in history.
